Featured Guest on The Roots Podcast-Using Passion to Create Impact

Stephanie, the host of the The Roots Podcast, and I discuss what lead me to run 12 Marathons in 12 days for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. My running story has had a lot of ups and downs. I am honored to be a guest on her podcast!

Key takeaways from this conversation:

1.Change is always possible.

The truth is, when I was a kid, I hated running (and exercise, in general). I never thought I would ever become so passionate about it that I would study it and choose to run 12 Marathons in 12 Days during my vacation. If you want to change because it matters to you, then you will. Change is difficult but I know that if you truly want to change, you will find a way. I believe in you.

2.Progress is almost never linear.

With running, I’ve had my own share of ups and downs. I improved quite a bit all though high school only to get hurt at the end of Grade 12 and have to start over a couple of years later. Then, I recovered, improved a lot and got hurt again in 2016. In 2017, I had to restart again and at that time I didn’t even imagine running 12 Marathons in 12 Days. At that time, I thought my running story was over, but, as it turns out, I was able to tackle my biggest challenge to date in 2020.

3.Never give up when the going gets tough.

The truth is, in running just like in life, you will go through periods of time where things are difficult. When things get difficult, we have two choices: we can keep going or we can quit. I hope that you find the strength within  yourself to keep going.
